Tonight was a long night at work. After covering this, and this, I was sitting in the newsroom working on three other stories I have to finish before vacation, when Lowell police got a 911 call reporting a B&E in progress at Conlon’s Liquors, 12 Bridge Street, at 11:38 p.m.

One of the suspects who reportedly smashed his way through a window was described as wearing a green jacket and jeans, according to police radio broadcasts.

Police arrived at the scene in less than a minute. Before I could even type out a 140 character tweet about this incident, an officer reported in radio broadcasts that both suspects were in custody.

I drove downtown and arrived to find the two men pictured above already being loaded into a prisoner transport wagon. Both appeared to be intoxicated, and one of them was particularly belligerent, yelling slurred words at officers.

Police said the men made it out of the store before officers arrived, but that one was caught just across Bridge Street from the store, while the other one only made it as far as the bridge over the Eastern Canal, about another 30-yards away.

Unfortunately, there was quite a bit of damage at Conlons, where the glass on the front door was smashed, but not broken out, and where a large plate glass window was smashed out, as seen above and below.

Both of these men are still being booked so I won’t be able to get their names until morning. I’ll update with their names and specific charges against them on Tuesday.

When I asked if the suspects had escaped with anything I was directed toward four cans of margarita-flavored Four Loko sitting atop a nearby trash can.

I provide commentary on things here in the blog sometimes, but I’m just not even going to add anything to this one. I’m pretty sure this one speaks for itself.

Hopefully the damage isn’t too expensive at Conlon’s. I’m checking out for the night. Tomorrow is already shaping up to be another long day.

UPDATE: Police have identified these gentlemen as Michael Wilson, 37, and Ronald Lake, 48, both of whom have no known address. Both are charged with breaking and entering at night, and disorderly conduct.
